What is opsec?

Open Protocol Security Coalition.

OPSeC is a new industry-wide initiative convened by DeFi Education Foundation (DEF) in partnership with Asymmetric Research and Security Alliance (SEAL) to improve cybersecurity resilience across blockchain ecosystems and onchain software. We are uniting development teams, security firms, and ecosystem leaders around a shared commitment to cybersecurity, transparency, and collaboration.

  • A shared resource hub

A chain-agnostic, publicly available repository amplifying proven frameworks already in use across the industry — from SEAL Frameworks and Certifications to Asymmetric Research's STRIDE.

  • A convening force

Regularly bringing leading security experts together to share knowledge and tools, audit what exists, and identify gaps the coalition can fill with new training and resources.

  • A bridge to policy

Hosting educational events and bringing policymakers into the conversation, so they can see how industry is prioritizing and implementing cybersecurity in practice.

why now?

Security is the foundation of crypto's future.

Crypto's long-term viability depends on making sure onchain software systems are secure, which requires high-quality cybersecurity practices that are standardized but tailored for each crypto ecosystem.

There is not one answer to cybersecurity: as technology rapidly evolves, so do the risks of exploits. Bad actors evolve and become more sophisticated alongside the technology.

OPSeC will amplify and coordinate the industry's proactive efforts to improve security by providing free cybersecurity resources, hosting educational events, and engaging with policymakers and regulators.
